2025 3SCTS Symposium supported charity
In lieu of gifts and on behalf of all 3SCTS speakers, presenters, facilitators and contributors, the 2025 3SCTS committee has chosen to support the Timor-Leste Hearts Fund (TLHF). A donation of $A5000 will be made to TLHF along with a complimentary exhibition booth at the meeting, and a complimentary delegate registration for a Timorese cardiologist to attend.
Established in 2010 by cardiologist Dr Noel Bayley, TLHF’s current activities focus on partnering with the Ministry of Health (Timor-Leste) and national hospital – Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares (HNGV) – to train the core cardiovascular workforce and strengthen the policy and advocacy environment for cardiovascular diseases in Timor-Leste.
There are currently only nine cardiologists in Timor-Leste and no specialist cardiology nurses for a population of more than 1.38 million people. The aim of TLHF is to improve the breadth and quality of cardiology services and improve access to the services.
This includes:
- Establishing a national cardiac governing body to lead the development of national guidelines, research and advocacy.
- Delivering training and mentoring activities for nine cardiologists and training more than 20 nurses in cardiac care. This includes:
- Mentoring and training by our Australian volunteer cardiologists who visit the cardiology ward at HNGV multiple times a year to assist local cardiologists with patient assessments and reviews during ward rounds.
- An in-service training program to be provided on the job, led by full-time resident program staff including an international interventional cardiologist and cardiac nurse.

TLHF thanks 3SCTS
“This $5000 donation will help us build strong clinical partnerships and improve patient outcomes by enabling our team to provide bedside education and training and mentoring to the cardiologists at the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares in Timor-Leste, during ward rounds and patient consultations. In addition, it will support the development of a National Cardiovascular Strategic plan in collaboration with the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health, which will be the first one for the country. Thank you for your support.”
